About the Library: Using LTU Library

Locating Resources with TechCat

TechCat is used to search for the resources you need through Lawrence Tech's library and beyond. Search more than two billion electronic, digital, and physical resources in libraries around the world with a single search of TechCat and a central index that represents thousands of e-content collections through OCLC.

You can search TechCat by title, the author(s), keywords (that describe what you need), ISBN number and numerous other ways. The items available at the Lawrence Tech library are always listed first. Items not available at the LTU library may be requested from other libraries. An "advanced search" guide to TechCat can be viewed here.

"Held by: Lawrence Technological University" means that LTU owns this.

In this case, it can be borrowed as an e-book (via the red "Access online" tab) or checked out of the library as a print book, as it is showing that is is available. The call number GR830.V3 B35 1988 shows where it is available in the library's book stacks.

If an item is showing as available, click on the red "Place a Hold for this" button to hold it for pick-up. The librarians will remove this item from the shelf and hold it for you behind the desk until you pick it up.

If the desired item shows as Held by: MelCat Libraries or Held by other libraries worldwide, you may request it from another library via the "Request Item via Interlibrary Loan" button. If you request an article, you will likely receive it as a PDF in your email through a system called Article Exchange. Generally, the fastest way to get BOOKS is through Michigan eLibrary (MeL). All items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan must be returned to the LTU library.

Available Resources

Books: Our holdings include over 40,000 print books, shelved according to their Library of Congress call numbers on the shelves or held for special circumstances on reserve behind the library desk. We can order books from other libraries through the MeL (Michigan eLibrary) and Interloan systems. LTU students have access to over 500,000 eBooks that can be downloaded through TechCat. Any book you borrow must be returned or renewed before its due date.

Many items we will hold as only a print book or an e-book (but occasionally we will have it in both forms). Generally, the LTU library does not hold textbooks, nor will we request them from other libraries.

Journals/Serials: The LTU Library shelves almost 1,000 print journals and provides access to over 40,000 electronic journals through our subscription databases. The focus of our collection is professional and peer-reviewed materials that support our academic programs. Articles unavailable through the library can also be requested through Interlibrary Loan. (Most of these articles arrive in your email very quickly via Article Exchange.) Make sure you are logged into Canvas before accessing our online journals.

Students can also access journal articles through free online services like Google Scholar and public domain resources such as HathiTrust.
