Citing Your Sources: Citing Artifical Intelligence

Properly format references, avoid plagiarism, and improve the credibility of their research with clear guidance on APA, MLA, and other citation styles.

Be cautious when using AI in your work!

  • Confirm with your instructor whether AI use (ChatGPT, et al.) is allowed for assignments in the course
  • Always verify the information and sources generated by AI tools
  • Content from AI tools like ChatGPT is usually nonrecoverable, so it cannot be retrieved or linked in your citation and should be cited as personal communication
  • Personal communication receives an in-text citation but does not appear on the list of references
